6th Class had a field trip to Knocknarea. We climbed the mountain from the Glen Side and had a lovely day out on the mountain. While walking up, the pupils noted some of the flora and fauna of the area. We saw various flowers like Herb Robert, Pink and White Clover, Tufted Vetch and of course, Buttercups and Daisies. We also heard Sky Larks and a Cuckoo. The pupils also found evidence of the longer history of the mountain in the form of ancient Coral and a fossilised Sea Slug on top of the mountain. Of course, they also saw Queen Maeve’s Grave and heard about the history of the mound. The pupils found out the names of the other mountains surrounding our lovely home area and spotted the islands and headlands of the area. 6th Class had a great day out. We were helped by our visiting Swiss Student Teacher, Sylvan and Ms Cassidy on the day.
