Fifth Class had the privilege to view an online interview with the much accomplished, broadcaster and academic, Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin. Her interview was part of the “Inspiring Ireland, Inspiring Students” Series of interviews. Aoibhinn hails from County Mayo and has a great interest in all things mathematical. In fact, she is a professor in UCD. From her experience, she attests that only by making mistakes can we learn mathematical processes. To fully understand new concepts in Maths we need to collaborate, think together and talk it through. She believes that learning is a messy business and we shouldn’t be afraid to fail. We are full of potential and should be self-assured in our potential as learners and contributors to this learning. It was fantastic to hear such inspiring ideas as we embark on our Maths Week festivities.
